june 2 - Marianne Ashley Walker, Gilbert Stuart

Marianne Ashley Walker, 1799 by Gilbert Stuart

I really love the detail in the bodice, the fashion at the time were very simple and free-flowing as it ushered in the regency period, but the intricate lace work adds an extra beautiful detail without other doing it. Gilbert Stuart also did another portrait of a different women with a practically identical dress, perhaps she loved the dress and wanted a similar portrait or copied them from fashion plates? You can only guess.
